Elon Musk has launched a scathing attack on AI rival Anthropic, calling its Claude chatbot 'misanthropic and evil' and accusing it of demographic bias. The outburst came just hours after Anthropic closed a thirty billion dollar funding round valuing the company at three hundred and eighty billion dollars.
Musk Takes Aim at Anthropic
Elon Musk has publicly attacked AI rival Anthropic, accusing its Claude chatbot of harbouring bias against specific demographic groups and labelling the company's technology "misanthropic and evil." The broadside came just hours after Anthropic announced it had closed one of the largest private technology funding rounds in history."Your AI hates Whites and Asians, especially Chinese, heterosexuals and men. This is misanthropic and evil. Fix it," Musk wrote on X, responding directly to Anthropic's funding announcement. The Tesla chief executive, whose xAI venture competes directly with Anthropic through its Grok chatbot, went on to mock the company's name, suggesting Anthropic was "doomed" to become "Misanthropic" the moment it chose its branding.
Record-Breaking Funding Round
The attack followed Anthropic's announcement that it had completed a thirty billion dollar Series G funding round at a three hundred and eighty billion dollar post-money valuation, more than doubling its previous worth. Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management led the round, with participation from D E Shaw Ventures, Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, ICONIQ, and MGX. NVIDIA and Microsoft also contributed portions of their previously announced investments.Anthropic's annual revenue run rate has climbed to fourteen billion dollars, with approximately eighty percent derived from enterprise clients. The company says over five hundred customers now spend more than one million dollars annually, up from just twelve two years ago.
Turbulence at xAI
Musk's criticism comes amid significant upheaval at his own AI company. Half of xAI's twelve original cofounders have now departed, with Tony Wu and Jimmy Ba both announcing their exits in quick succession earlier this month. The departures followed SpaceX's announcement that it would acquire xAI to form a combined entity valued at one point two five trillion dollars ahead of a planned initial public offering.A Rivalry With History
The feud intensified in January when Anthropic revoked xAI's access to Claude models through the coding platform Cursor, citing terms that prohibit customers from using its models to build competing AI systems. Musk responded at the time by praising Claude's coding capabilities whilst questioning the company's approach. Anthropic has not publicly responded to Musk's latest accusations.Published February 15, 2026 at 7:33am
