Anthropic Targets Ten Gigawatts of Data Centre Power in Massive Infrastructure Push

Anthropic's Ten Gigawatt Ambition

Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, is quietly building one of the most ambitious data centre empires in the technology industry. According to a report from The Information, the company is working to secure up to ten gigawatts of power for future data centres, a figure that would dwarf most existing AI infrastructure projects.

Assembling the Team

To execute this vision, Anthropic has been recruiting heavyweight talent from the data centre world. Former Google director Brett Rogers, who oversaw a four hundred percent expansion of Google's data centre portfolio across North and South America, has joined the effort. The company also brought on board Tim Hughes, another veteran of large-scale infrastructure projects. Earlier, Anthropic appointed former Stripe chief technology officer Rahul Patil to oversee its broader infrastructure expansion.

Building on Existing Partnerships

The ten gigawatt target builds on an already substantial infrastructure foundation. Anthropic's fifty billion dollar partnership with Fluidstack, announced in late twenty twenty-five, will deliver custom facilities in Texas and New York throughout twenty twenty-six. Amazon's Project Rainier campus in Indiana, built exclusively for Anthropic, will consume two point two gigawatts when complete. An expanded Google Cloud agreement provides access to up to one million TPU chips.

The Compute Arms Race

Anthropic's own research suggests that training frontier AI models will require two gigawatt data centres by twenty twenty-seven and five gigawatt facilities by twenty twenty-eight. The company has warned that the United States needs at least fifty gigawatts of AI capacity by twenty twenty-eight to remain competitive with China, which added over four hundred gigawatts of power capacity in twenty twenty-four alone.

Funding the Vision

To finance this expansion, Anthropic is raising up to twenty billion dollars at a valuation near three hundred and fifty billion dollars. The company's revenue surged from eighty-seven million dollars in early twenty twenty-four to approximately ten billion dollars by the end of twenty twenty-five, according to chief executive Dario Amodei.
