Apple is days away from unveiling a completely redesigned Siri powered by Google's Gemini AI models, following a landmark one billion dollar per year partnership. The upgraded assistant arrives via iOS 26.4 this spring, with an even more ambitious chatbot codenamed Campos planned for September.
Siri Gets Its Biggest Upgrade in Fifteen Years
Apple is preparing to demonstrate a fundamentally redesigned version of Siri built on Google Gemini artificial intelligence models, marking the most dramatic evolution of the voice assistant since its debut in twenty eleven. The company plans to showcase the upgraded assistant in the second half of February, with iOS 26.4 entering beta shortly after and a public release expected by March or early April.A Billion Dollar Partnership
The multi-year deal, announced in January twenty twenty six, sees Apple paying Google approximately one billion dollars annually for access to a custom version of Gemini 2.5 Pro. The model runs on Apple's Private Cloud Compute infrastructure, with Apple claiming that Siri interactions sent to Gemini are anonymised and never stored or used to train Google's future models. For Google, the partnership makes Gemini the default AI engine across both Android and iOS, instantly expanding its reach to billions of mobile users worldwide. What Changes for Users
iOS 26.4 introduces three core capabilities: personal context knowledge allowing Siri to access information across Mail, Messages, and Calendar; on-screen awareness enabling the assistant to understand and act on displayed content; and hundreds of new in-app and cross-app actions. Response times have reportedly been cut to under half a second, with a one hundred and twenty eight thousand token context window allowing Siri to maintain conversational memory across extended interactions. The upgrade requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer devices. The Road Ahead
While iOS 26.4 marks a substantial leap, Apple is positioning it as merely phase one. At WWDC twenty twenty six this June, the company plans to preview an even more advanced version codenamed Campos, a full conversational AI assistant designed to rival ChatGPT and Gemini itself. This chatbot will be embedded deeply into iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems, replacing the current Siri interface entirely when it arrives with iOS 27 in September. Apple's software chief Craig Federighi has acknowledged that the company's original hybrid architecture failed about a third of the time, forcing a complete rebuild around large language models.Published February 7, 2026 at 10:24pm
