Nvidia Launches Halos for Robotics, Its First Full-Stack Safety System for Physical AI

Nvidia has unveiled Halos for Robotics, a full-stack safety framework that extends its autonomous vehicle safety technology to robots and physical AI working alongside humans. Announced at the Automate conference in Chicago, the system draws on more than 18,600 engineering years of self-driving safety development. Agility Robotics is the first to adopt it for its Digit humanoid.

Nvidia Brings Car-Grade Safety to the Factory Floor

Nvidia has announced Halos for Robotics, which it describes as the industry's first full-stack safety system for physical AI. Revealed on Monday at the Automate conference in Chicago, the framework extends the safety technology Nvidia developed for autonomous vehicles to robots and humanoids operating alongside people in factories, warehouses, and logistics operations.

The company says the system draws on more than 18,600 engineering years of autonomous vehicle safety development, unifying AI compute, system software, sensor data, safety applications, and inspection into a single architecture.

Three Layers of Protection

Halos spans three layers. At the hardware level sits the IGX Thor industrial-grade AI compute module, paired with the Holoscan Sensor Bridge for real-time sensor connectivity. On top of that runs Halos OS, a software stack that includes safety functions and an "Outside-In Safety Blueprint" that uses external cameras and AI agents to monitor and control robot behaviour. Finally, the Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab is described by Nvidia as the world's first ANSI National Accreditation Board-accredited programme for functional and AI safety in physical AI.

"Physical AI is transforming how factories, warehouses and logistics operations work, and robotics teams need a unified safety architecture to scale autonomous systems into these environments," said Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge AI at Nvidia.

Agility Robotics Leads Adoption

Agility Robotics is the first company to incorporate Halos, integrating IGX Thor and Halos Core into the safety architecture for its Digit humanoid robot. Digit already performs industrial work for customers including Amazon, GXO, Schaeffler, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. Agility will use the inspection lab to validate Digit's software, AI components, and cybersecurity protections against standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 before seeking third-party certification.

"For humanoids to deliver value at scale, safety has to be built into the robot and validated across the entire system," said Agility CEO Peggy Johnson.

A Growing Ecosystem

The Halos ecosystem now includes more than 40 companies. These span certification bodies such as TUV Rheinland, TUV SUD, and UL Solutions, alongside semiconductor partners including Infineon, NXP Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments. FORT Robotics is among the industrial application partners building functional safety agents using the Halos Outside-In Safety Blueprint. Halos Core is available now in early access for registered developers, and the Outside-In Safety Blueprint has been released as open source on GitHub, signalling Nvidia's intent to make safety a shared, industry-wide foundation rather than a proprietary advantage.
